Meet REX’s Founder, Dennis Hopkins
I was raised in Toronto, Canada. For as long as I can remember, I’ve had an incredible thirst for knowledge about how things work and how they can be made better. That led to my Honors Degree in Philosophy from the University of Western Ontario.
After graduating, I moved to Vancouver, British Columbia where I continued my education, this time with a focus on business and entrepreneurship.
In 1999 I settled in Seattle, where I now live with my wife Dr. Sara Render Hopkins, our young son, our cats Tallulah and Sushi and our dogs Roy and Tilley.
Here in Seattle I founded IMR Renovations, a residential design/build remodeling company. I’m grateful to say I was able to create a thriving remodeling business from the ground up, one that focused on integrity, efficiency and environmental stewardship – all of which are very important to me.
“Yes, there is great veterinary software out there, but it becomes ineffective when applied to the unique and specific needs of the mobile hospice and EOL care vet.”
As I grew my remodeling business, I was excited to help Sara build her mobile veterinary business, Compassion 4 Paws, as well. She focuses specifically on in-home pet hospice and end-of-life (EOL) care services. As I watched her practice grow, though, I realized something. She was putting countless unnecessary hours into her business because of inefficiencies which could be avoided if she had access to software designed to meet her practice’s unique needs.
I conducted extensive research to find software that would help her, but none existed. Yes, there is great veterinary software out there, but it becomes ineffective when applied to the unique and specific needs of the mobile hospice and EOL care vet.
That’s when the creative problem-solver in me kicked in. I saw a gap that needed to be filled – not only for Sara, but for other mobile hospice and EOL care vets. So I applied my extensive project management skills and rallied a team of consultants and software developers to make my vision a reality – a software application for mobile hospice vets that makes the business side of their practice a “walk in the park”.
And we did it! We created REX.
Using REX, mobile hospice and EOL care vets can eliminate administrative headaches and focus on why they became vets in the first place – to care for their patients.
As you can tell, I’m pretty passionate about our new pal, REX. When I’m not playing with REX, I enjoy camping with the family, canoeing, kayaking and fine woodworking. Yoga and meditation are important parts of my life as well.
